I am currently working with a professor in a DNA nanotech lab and we are about to publish a paper on open source techniques that we have been able to use for our research. With that being said, the members of the lab are me, another undergrad student, and a graduate student and I was wondering if the order of names on the publication will matter. The undergrad student and I work as a team to complete different tasks so we can be more efficient. I also know that we will be publishing more papers on the work that we do in the future, I'm just curious as this is my first time working for a research professor that publishes a lot.

Thanks for any help!

The order does matter, but at this point just being published is a great accomplishment, so I wouldn't worry too much about where your name ends up ( unless you actually did most of the work, then you should be first/co-author)

Are you sure you're going to be listed as an author?

Is there much difference between being third and fourth on the paper? @ANATOMYgirl22

The only spots that really matter are first, second, and last.

In my experience,

First: Came up with the idea
Second: Did all the work
Last: Senior researcher who provided moral support
