research ques

Ok so I will be starting research in a week or so...Ive written on my app that "i will be starting research in the fall". Is that ok? i mean does it look bad on your application?
I don't get your question. Why would that be bad...
no, it doesnt look bad at all! and plus, when you land some interviews, you should have a month or two of research experience, knowledge and know* how, and mishaps that you can chat up the adcom with. make a big effort to really give research a shot and learn what is going on, what youre doing, why youre doing it, and your goal.

I did it! IMO, if they didn't want you to be able to do that, they wouldn't have allowed for the applicant to enter a start date after the present. I have 3 interview invites so far, so I don't think it hurt!

What kind of research do we need? Would someone please elaborate a little?
Thanks!

Scientific research...?
I think its fine to say you will be starting research in the fall, but I would also state the type of research that you will be doing.
Assuming you will actually follow through with the plan.
Oh im def following through, already working with my prof in the lab 🙂

you dont need any research! I feel a common misconception many make is that to be accepted into medical/dental, one needs to have completed undergraduate research. at many universities professors are not there to teach, but rather research is their primary focus. for example, you could work in the chem department doing reactions as you did in orgo lab, or in the bio department doing work with rats/mice, etc. but you certainly dont need it, and it is a huge time commitment.

true but it does look nice when u have that on ur list of accomplishments 🙂
Research is overrated. Most of the research applicants do involve grunt work, similar to someone with an "internship" in the business world who merely makes photocopies all day. So unless you're one of the main authors of published material, then research has marginal value in an application.

This is completely untrue.
Duck DDs is exactly right. ReseArch Looks great on your app and is very important to some schools such as ucla ucsf harvard etc. With schools like that if you don't have some research exp it lowers your chances a good bit in comparision to those Who do have research experience
