Hello All,

I have to write a 20 page scientific review for an undergrad course I am currently taking. Because of my interest in Optometry I woud really like to do an Ocular Dx. I was wondering if any O.D.'s out there or any Opt Students could give me a Dx that I would be able to find plently of info about, and maybe even some rescources. My ideas so far are:

Age-related Macular Degeneration
OR
glaucoma
OR
Diabetic Retinopathy

I would like to try and stick with a Dx that O.D.'s treat or at least take part in Co-managment with an OMD. Thanks for your help!

Its not very common (1/20,000), but I did a paper on Stargardt's disease (a genetic type of juvenile macular degeneration). The exact genetics, proteins, and mechanisms are all known and so it makes for simple research. If you go too broad, you'll end up with 8 different causes of "glaucoma" which will then be broken down into more specific types.

Just a thought.

I would also stay away from glaucoma since it has many different sub-types. It's too general.

Diabetic retinopathy would be interesting but you also get into the broad topic genre... stargardt's would also be good.
Ocular albinism is another good one (along with oculocutaneous albanism)
or Retinitis pigmentosa
