My school offers the following areas of research. I was wondering which, if any, might be viewed more fondly upon by radiology/IR residencies:

Auditory System Evolution
Embryology
Endoparasites
Epithelial Physiology
Exercise/Diabetes Physiology
Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (Animal Model)
Gender & Heart Function
Mechanisms of Tumor Metastasis
Molecular Mechanisms of Neurodegenerative Diseases
Molecular Genetics of Archaea/Bacteria
Oxidative Stress
Paleobiology/Evolution of Vertebrates
Primate Functional Morphology
Pulmonary Hypertension Physiology
Respiratory Physiology of Arthropods
Spinal Cord Injury
Visual System Evolution

To piggyback on this and not start a new topic:

Is radiology one of those specialties where it's necessary (or highly recommended) to have research relevant to the field to stay competitive? I understand some very competitive fields such as Der, Rad Onc, ENT almost require relevant research.
For Rads/IR is that the case, or is any research okay?

Not necessary but very helpful esp if you are shooting for a brand name program in either coasts.

If you're doing basic science research, cancer research is generic enough to be applicable to nearly any field. But seriously, whatever is easiest. It sounds like your posting from a list, my advice would be to ask students who have done research with mentors at your school and get their opinion on who is good and not good to work with.

Solid advice, practical perspective. Thank you JoshSt, now that you've made it seem so obvious, I am going to go for Mechanisms of Tumor Metastasis.
