Hello Everyone,

I'm in in the Honors College at my university and I'll be a junior next year. One of the requirements for the Honors College is undergrads in their junior year must complete 3 credit hours worth of research or internship. I could do research at UMDNJ in their Center of Oral Infectious Disease, or I was thinking an internship at any local private practice. What do you recommend I should do? Which looks bettter on applications, a research position or internship position? Or maybe I should go for research outside of dentistry that I may find interesting?

Personally, I find the internship more interesting for me because I've looked through the research at UMDNJ's Center of Oral Infectious Disease, and it just seems really boring to me. I'm not much of a laboratory person unfortunately.

So, thoughts?

Do the internship. Both look equally good on an application, you might as well be doing what you like.

Do the research. Everyone is going to have private practice dental experience, and a letter of recommendation from a dentist. Not everyone has experience in research. Plus, you'll be making connections at a dental school and getting to know common faculty, about whom you can discuss during an interview, or possibly have a recommendation letter.
