How important is it to do a research year after clerkships to match into an integrated plastic surgery program?
Will it hurt my chances of matching without a research year?
Charting outcomes doesn't report that data. But they report this:
Average number of pubs (including abstracts and posters) for matched applicants was 28. As you can see, the verage for unmatched was 14. If you have >20 pubs, you may not need a research year. There likely is some quality/quantity issues here - if you have one really amazing pub that you're the 1st author on, that may count much more.
