research year

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm thinking about taking a research year between 3rd and 4th year. I tried googling programs but many have been stopped except for HHMI. Anyone know of any other year off programs that would be a good option?

NIH MSTP, but the NIH only has 3-4 derm labs, and not all the labs are willing to take students.

The nice thing about the HHMI program is that if you don't get it, your potential advisor might be willing to fund you for a year.

The Fogarty and Fulbright programs are also options.

Penn has a predoctoral research fellowship that is available to non-Penn students.

Finally, there are individual researchers who post fellowships for med students in the winter/fall; check the "available positions" sub-forum on SDN and on the DermBoard

I think what you are referring to in terms of the NIH MSTP is the NIH MRSP, which the link is given below:

In terms of other programs I came across, you can add the following in addition to the previous poster:

Janelia Farms HHMI Program - Probably not too relatable to derm though (traditional HHMI program as well)

Research Fellowship in Epidemiology at the CDC

Doris Duke International Clinical Research Fellowship (sadly the domestic program ended)

Probably various other fellowships that you can only find by going to department websites.
