There are research opportunities that I am interested in. They allow options to receive either payment,academic credit, or volunteering. Which would be the wiser option to pick when applying to dental schools.

I think as a whole as long as it's research I assume they'll all be seen the same and will go under research experience section on the AADSAS. I've done all 3. Research is research. I'd just pick the one that will interest you the most and hopefully get you on a publication!

Take the paid option unless you need the credit. Definitely do not volunteer unless you have to.

Without any experience, you may need to start off as a volunteer and work your way up to academic credit or paid position. Academic credit will also boost your GPA.
