Hi all ,
i wanted to know , in terms of US experience before residency...what is better ...US research or an observership?

And in research , whats better- lab research or clinical research?

I would think that observership would almost be required for admission. This shows that you are committed to going to medical school. I volunteered at a few different settings. Paid work is fine too. Most schools I applied to did not value my research PhD. I only applied to one decent research school and my application was in the second tier due to above average but mediocre MCAT scores. I did get into both allopathic and ostoepathic programs. I think to answer the secondary applications adequately you need good medical (not research) experience. Research experience can help a weak application but remember many of the lower tier medical schools do not have good research programs so they are looking for people skills.
