I'm looking for research opportunities within an EM department or a school with an EM residency program for next year. Any ideas how I go about doing this? Any openings?

Yam,
There is some catalog that listed if a program offered a research elective and I can't remember where I saw it. I just checked EMRA, SAEM, and Freida without luck. Anyway, SAEM did have a heading for Research Director and contact info (http://www.saem.org/rescat/contents.htm) so their residency catalog might be a good place to start.
I did a 4 week research elective at Einstein in Philly. The schedule was not too bad and they have some legit clinical studies constantly running in the ED (Publishable). That being said, the majority of the work that I did consisted of enrolling patients in studies or data entry. Not enough time or contribution to get my name on a paper but I think that is a limitation of any research effort that is limited to one rotation block (e.g. 4 weeks). Goodluck,

Robb

I went to the research director of an EM program (e-mail) and asked them if they had anything set up that needed some extra hands to help with and they hooked me up with a sweet little project that I could accomplish in one month. got first authorship on an abstract / poster presentation / and oral presentation for a meeting. All out of that small time. Never know what someone wants help on. helps them because it is one more thing "they" (department) has their name on. Just a thought. Worked for me. Helped me on the interview trail as well. Thanks for the help! You know who you all are.
