What's the best type of research to perform to maximize chances of getting an integrated spot? derm research ie/skin autoimmune? is there a better option?

thanks

I am not aware of any correlation. As you know integrated positions in Plastics are the most competitive of all residency slots. Aside from top grades/board scores, clinical letters, etc, the research type does NOT matter.
If you did research in microbiology or pharmacokinetics of some new antimalerial drug, it would not matter. What matters for research is publications and quality science. You would benefit more with solid science publications in a non-surgical field than if you had one plastic surgery abstract at a conference.

Burns, wound healing are nice general subjects to study.

tissue engineering and immune modulation are timely in the field of plastic surgery.

Good luck.

One Plastic Surgery professor tald me that Tissue Ingeneering is good topic for plastic surgery. However, as I discussed in diferent forum about this, the quality of research and publications are really important too.

I was wondering how well received surgical ethics research would be when applying to plastic surgery. I've wanted to get more patient interaction and have the opportunity to interview patients and learn about the ethical aspects of plastic surgery, which seem to be important given the controversy surrounding developing procedures (e.g. facial transplantation). Any ideas on how this would fair as far as research is concerned for the match process?
