What percentage of accepted student have research on there resume? I know there's no statistic (or maybe there is) but what is an estimate?
45%?, 55%? Thanks

You're only going to get stupid answers. Your real question is whether research can help your resume, and possibly give you an edge over someone without research. Answer: yes.

What does research actually mean on your dental application?

For instance, does this count:

Summer Undergrad Biomedical Research Experience : 10 week program @ UMDNJ

Paired w/ research scientist n learn basic skills needed for research

or does social science research count?

Please clarify?

Bottom line: If you have the opportunity to do research, take advantage of it, even if you can only devote 10 hrs/week. Even if your research experiences/efforts don't culminate in a publication, it shows adcoms that you're capable of taking on more responsibility beyond the scope of the classroom since the workload in D school is at least 2-3x that of undergrad.

It's just simply a matter of priorities to you: if it's a priority for you to make yourself a desireable D school candidate, then make the extra effort to show that you're willing to go into the lab on a Friday afternoon (rather than hitting up the bars early) or on weekends.

This isn't to say that people who don't do research don't get into D schools, but if you're aiming for the best schools (i.e. those that typically have an applicant pool that would also be competitive for med schools as far as GPA and ECs are concerned), having research experience is a big plus. It's no secret that you can't just cruise into D schools anymore...
