Im trying to get a research opportunity during the year but I dont know how to go about it. Should I just call hospitals in my area? Is research something that most applicants have or is it not a big deal? I did some research over the summer in psychology would that help my app at all?

i would stick with the psych research unless you're tired of it. the adcom people like to see students advance in their research throughout their undergrad years. otherwise keep on calling the volunteer dept in various hospitals until you get in somewhere.

GOOD LUCK

I'd say that your college would be the first place to seek research opportunities in a field that you like.

Second place would be the local medical center.

Also, don't continue with research you're not interested in. In fact, if you don't like research at all, I wouldn't pursue it at all. You only have a finite amount of time, and you should be passionate about what you're doing.

Did you enjoy the psych research at all? Maybe not the material necessarily, but the logic behind it and the goal of contributing to the field? If so, then that's a good sign. If not, you may want to take another stab at it in another field like neuroscience or biology. If you don't like that either, then you may want to find another EC to occupy your time and that helps you grow as a person and future physician.

I'm looking to do undergraduate research in psychology and my college unfortunately doesn't have any opportunities. Where else can I look? Anyone know of any places near NYC?

Thanks for the Help !!!

my college doesn't advertise that there are opportunities, and I found some. email the department head or stop by the office, you might get pointed in the direction of some professors that do research. have you tried that?

Thanks for the help!!!
But yeah I tried talking to the department and professors, but to no avail. They said if something comes up they'll tell me, but for now I'm on my own.
🙁

If you have any ideas or links whatever I'd be very grateful.

What I did a few years ago is went to my schools Microbiology department website faculty list, and literally one by one emailed each professor asking for a spot for research. Did most email me back? Of course not, but one did and I've stuck with her for the past 3 years. Good luck.

unfortunately none of the professors in my college do any research !!!
