Obviously research experience is something that medical schools look at. I'm wondering where I can look to get a job in research and where are some places you guys have applied? I would rather have a paid job, but if I cannot get one I am sure I could ask a professor to do some research on the side with them? Any ideas on this would be great thanks!

I currently have a full time research job and am applying this cycle. I've been doing it for over 4 years after college.

I'd need to know more about you to help. How old are you? Do you have a science degree? Have you had other science-related jobs? Have you worked in a medical field before?

It's difficult to get a paying job unless you have some experience and a science degree. PIs want somebody who can be independent and run experiments for them without huge amounts of training. Even then I have seen Freshman in college with no Bio background become comfortable doing a western blot in one summer.

Finance background, 28, no sciene work. So yeah haha. It can't hurt to apply right? Where can I find these jobs. And where can I find nonpaying jobs incase I cannot get a job here?

hmm that could be difficult. If you live near a university I would suggest emailing or calling professors who about their research. Tell them you're trying to get into research and are going to apply to medical school. Ask for their suggestions. You can research them by looking up their lab webpage if they have one, or their dossier. Just ask everybody you can find and start reading some of their published literature.

Honestly, without any science background it may be hard to get into research. Usually you can find the full time jobs on University job listings.

If you have taken the pre-med pre-reqs then you should have a good basic understanding of the background science needed for research. At the very least you should be able to find somebody who is willing to take you under their wing as a volunteer.

Yup I have taken all the science prereqs.

Still unlikely for anyone to give you a paid position since you don't know many lab techniques. It's better if you just volunteer for a professor and then get a "real" job on the side. Even for folks with a BA it is becoming increasingly difficult to find a paid position. Masters is really becoming the minimum requirement.

I see. Still, where should I even be looking to find these jobs?

How much does research come into play for med school admissions , particularly for non-trads? Is there a number out there of how many folks go into med school with research experience?

Check the MSAR.

It's like any other job. Just look for them on craigslist or on the website of the company you want to work in.
