I'm just wondering what the rest of you guys have done when looking to apply at particular medschools. Someone has mentioned that there are books that have researched medschools. Where are these and what other things have you looked at (eg website, talked to students, etc)?

Thanks.

The MSAR (Medical School Admission Requirements) book is available for purchase through the AMCAS website, but is also usually in your library reference section or pre-health advising office.

An excellent summary can be found in a grid put together by HAl9000 and Data ***** at the top of the "What are my Chances?" Forum called School Section spreadsheet.

I bought a copy of the MSAR and picked out schools that:
a. had MCAT and GPA stats near mine and
b. if it was an OOS school for me, a certain percentage of OOS students (I don't remember, but it was like 25% or something).

Then I narrowed that down to 30 schools (which is a lot, but when you're coming from Cali you gotta go big 😉). I had a couple of reach schools that I was 90% certain I wouldn't get into, but would be really cool and I'd go if I did.

I don't know if this is the best way to pick schools, but it's what I did.

Good luck! :luck:

some school's have really narley websites that tell a lot!

i go by location first
