Reserve obligation after getting out as GMO

Howdy folks,

Trying to figure out what my reserve obligation is. I am being told that I owe 8 years no matter what. Does that include med school when I was IRR + internship + GMO time? Confused about it all.

Also, If I do owe some time after GMO I'd like to do IRR but I've heard through the grapevine some people have been told they have to serve out at least "X amount" of the time (ie 2 months) in the select reserves and they couldn't go straight to IRR, has anyone heard of this?

I don’t think time in med school accounts. Internship counts as a neutral year. Residency potentially adds to your payoff.

It’s usually a pretty simple 8-x equation. If you spend 4 years as a GMO and get out, you have an additional 4 years IRR. I haven’t heard of people being forced into the select reserves.

Intern year counts.

Intern plus four year GMO (5 years) would leave 3 years of life on a list in IRR.

HPSP has it’s own place in title 10 for how it’s counted as military service.

If someone wants to switch from IRR to reserves how does the pay work out?

Has anyone spent a year or so in the reserves to satisfy their remaining initial 8 year time period?

I am looking at trying to backfill a place for maybe up to 90 days somewhere.
I am told I would get the regular BAS, BAH, officer pay. Guessing no specialist pays?

You get speciality pay as well. I know for a fact you get it for a 90 day MOB. Pretty sure it kicks in if on orders >30 days.
