I don't know if I understand what you are asking. Maybe you can clarify. Most likely what you read in FRIEDA referred to programs that require a preliminary year. Examples include radiology, dermatology, and anesthesiology. People applying for residencies in those specialites will begin training in the 2006-07 academic year, after they have completed a prelim year in 2005-06.

Nah, all programs have that on FREIDA. I think they're just saying that they'll use ERAS next year, too, that's all.

This is in relation to preliminary and advanced positions, as Jaded Soul suggests.

Thank you very much

i think the program was an orthopedic surgery one
up to my knowledge, it does not need a preliminary year as requirement!!

Can you post a link from FREIDA on this program? I'm curious to see if they offer both categorical and advanced spots. Otherwise, I can't explain it.

I had a query too.

So if we apply for positions for 2006 in anesthesia and prelim positions in IM ans Surg etc etc..

What if we match for 2006 and not the prelim year??

Secondly. can we click for both 2005 and 2006 for anesthesia programs that have both options?? Is that considered one or 2 applications in terms of money?

Cheers!

that is the link

go to the general information heading and look for this item
(Latest date for applications for 2006-2007 12/12/2004 )

SO, what is the meaning of that?!!!
thank you

This is my interpretation:

If you look carefully at the link, you'll see that they do not offer preliminary positions. They are, therefore, only interviewing for PGY-2 for this year's Match (i.e., you can interview there for a spot starting in July 2005 if you are currently in the midst of and will finish your PGY-1 year by June 2005). At the same time, they are also interviewing now for advanced placement as a PGY-2 starting in 2006. If accepted, you'd still have to finish a PGY-1 year somewhere else - or, if accepted for a categorical spot, you'd do your preliminary surgery year there through their program.

You can see that they do not even list PGY-1 residents on their website:

**DISCLAIMER**: This is only my interpretation of the information provided here. I MIGHT BE WRONG, as I have only superficially looked at these sites. If you still have a question and want to be sure what I said here is correct, email the program director.
