Hello everyone,
Would greatly appreciate some honest advice from y’all. I am currently a MD candidate at a mid-low tier MD school with a few hiccups on my record.
During my MS2 year, I failed two exams but still passed the course (remediated the exams afterwards). While on my transcript there is no discussion of the exam failures, my MSPE will be expected to say something like “remediated two exams while passing the course on the first attempt”
Additionally, I am delayed in taking STEP1 for which it was recommended for me to take the year off (no remediation). I was planning on taking a Research year so this will take place during this year as well. This gap in education will be listed on the MSPE as something like “additional time taken for STEP1 and student pursued academic research opportunities”.
Given that these statements will be on the MSPE, are my chances at matching to certain competitive specialties completely gone? If I was to be interested in IM at top tier institutions, would it still be possible if I kill clerkships and STEP2?
Would greatly appreciate your input. Thank you in advance!
