Do residency applicants typically get their LORs from med school professors or from physicians from their rotations?

Do residency applicants typically get their LORs from med school professors or from physicians from their rotations?

LORs from practicing physicians in the field of your residency are preferred over LORs from basic science professors, in general. If however you have a significant academic relationship with one of the latter (ie, a long term research project), then it would be appropriate to use an LOR from this person.
