Does anyone have any information about the peds residency program at St. Louis Children's Hospital? Is it a malignant program? Does it lend itself to securing a good fellowship? Lifestyle during the program? Any info would be appreciated.

My buddy goes there and he really likes it. It is a big program in a big hospital in one of the nicest parts of the city of St. Louis. He says they work hard, but they are treated nicely, so I guess it may be malignant depending on how you define the term.

The program is very subspecialty focused with a lot of fellows in the program. It is VERY good for getting fellowships. But this is at the expense of a good general peds education. I have been told that there are not any general pediatricians on staff at the hospital. All of the residents go into the community for their general pediatrics training. Although I do want to do fellowship, I find this to be a significant problem with the program. All subspecialties still require a solid general pediatric education.
