Vent, PGY1 here who is absolutely not loving residency so far (not anything malignant, just typical residency stuff). I'm coming to accept that I may be too burned out by hospital stuff by the end of residency to pursue a fellowship. Outpatient gen neuro seems very appealing rn. I am not alone, am I? :help:

By the time you complete your residency, Neurology practice will be very different with AI fully implemented.

Residency is hard, and neurology residency is definitively one of the harder ones, especially as you are essentially an intern for 2 consecutive years. It will get better however, and grass IS greener on the other side as an attending. Hang in there.

Felt exactly how you did as an intern. I have previous rants on SDN about it. I am IM trained and hated it so much, I was thinking about switching to EM. I reentered the match and had a few interviews but ultimately decided to stay in IM. Now, first year out, I am a PCP with a private practice with on partnership track. It does get better but can still suck if you land a bad gig after training. I am starting to see medicine as just a job and try not to make it the focal point of my identity. But there is no getting around the pain of residency sadly. I developed major depressive disorder and chronic insomnia as a result. If your mental health begins to suffer (burnout makes everything worse), seek help far sooner than I did.
