I did a search of the forum, as well as the internet in general, and could find no source of data on case logs for ENT residency programs. Does anyone know if that information is available anywhere? An ACGME website? Special book only Dept. Chairs have access to? A hidden web address? Thanks.

During our yearly review, our program director gives us a report that compares our cases to the national average. I am a PGY2, so last year my intern numbers did not really matter. The numbers are out there, but I don't have that information to share.

Even if the data were available, I would caution that looking at case numbers can be misleading if you are trying to figure out how to rank programs. Plus, it would really cumbersome to compare the programs with each other, and probably a low yield use of your time.

The question is, "does this program have difficulty getting a sufficient number of cases in any area?" It is ideal to have a well balanced exposure to all of the subspecialties as well as general ENT. More numbers does not necessarily mean better training - you want to have some time to read up on your cases, for didactics and clinic and not necessarily be in the OR all day every day.

Rotating at a program or getting to know the residents are the best ways to ascertain the strength of a program's surgical training. And the bottom line is that at most places, you will be fine.
