residency chances after failing step 1

what are my chances at an internal medicine residency should I fail step 1?
does anyone know what the views from selection committees have for FMG's with a failed first attempt?

According to http://www.nrmp.org/data/chartingoutcomes2009v3.pdf , each speciality has their own level of tolerance for failing the USMLE. As expected, the less competitive specialities do not mind as much as others.

It is a complicated question since there are many variables at play (e.g. location, teaching, malignancy, hours...etc

If you want a program that is less competitive then you are looking IM, FM, Psych and possibly Neuro at a community program in an undesirable location or in rural areas.
