Hello.
I am a doctor from Bulgaria (EU citizen), I finished medical school in Macedonia(Non EU country).
I want to know how difficult is to get a job/residency in Germany?
As I understood there are no exams, the only condition is to speak German fluently, which I plan to.
Is there a specific deadline for applying for residency? Or I can start the residency as soon as I get a job?
Any other details i should know about?
Thank you.

There are some knowledgeable replies about working as a doctor in Germany here - http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=462938

Although as a Bulgarian you are an EU citizen with the right to work in Germany, a Macedonian medical degree will not automatically be accepted as a qualification (the EU rules for which are set out in Directive 2005/36/EC here -
http://ec.europa.eu/internal_market/qualifications/future_en.htm).

I suspect that you may therefore need to apply to whoever the appropriate German authorities are so that they accept your degree as equivalent to EU basic medical training. This is defined in Article 24 of Directive 2005/36/EC as -

"a total of at least six years of study or 5 500 hours of theoretical and practical training provided by, or under the supervision of, a university which provides an assurance that the person
in question has acquired the following knowledge and skills:

(a) adequate knowledge of the sciences on which medicine is based and
a good understanding of the scientific methods including the principles
of measuring biological functions, the evaluation of scientifically
established facts and the analysis of data;
(b) sufficient understanding of the structure, functions and behaviour of
healthy and sick persons, as well as relations between the state of
health and physical and social surroundings of the human being;
(c) adequate knowledge of clinical disciplines and practices, providing
him with a coherent picture of mental and physical diseases, of
medicine from the points of view of prophylaxis, diagnosis and
therapy and of human reproduction;

(d) suitable clinical experience in hospitals under appropriate supervision."

How about, if I get recognition of my diploma in Bulgaria, will that be sufficient for me to work as a Doctor, or I still have to get recognition in Germany too???

P.S Thanks for the quick reply. Appreciate it.

I'm afraid you are now asking questions which are beyond my knowledge. You might start by contacting the relevant authorities in Bulgaria to see what the rules are there about getting your qualification recognised and what the rules are about where else in the EU you could train/practice once you have recognition from Bulgaria for a non-EU degree. But before doing something it might also be worth checking out the position in Germany, as far as you can. It is possible, depending on what opportunities are available and at what stages in a medical career, that you might be better off going straight into the German system without going via Bulgarian recognition. But as I say, I don't really know, so please don't rely on my views on these points.

Good luck.

I am not sure if I should directly apply for licence to practice, or I should first apply for job (assistantarzt), and then contact the authorities for licence.
Can anyone give me info on this matter?
