Just wondering how many weeks of leave/vacation everyone gets per year at their respective programs. We had 3 CA1 and 4 in each of the CA 2&3 yrs, but just found out they were planning on making it 3/yr across the board. As I am about to start CA 2, I gotta say I'm a little more than bummed.

We get 4 weeks/yr + 5 days educational/meeting time + 10 holidays per year. And this is why unions cost the country an arm and a leg...

What program in Texas, I don't remember any of them having more than 3 weeks/yr?

ACGME I think says you get 3 weeks plus sick days. Some programs give you another week of vacation in exchange for not giving you sick days. This means you have to make up any sick outs (like an extra Saturday call).

I think you are right. That's the way it was where I trained. 4 weeks vacation. If you called out sick you usually picked up an extra call. The thread of extending residency was there, but I don't think it was ever used. All blame was placed on ACGME.

What's up Neo? The PD at your sister program told us that we have 20 weekdays each year that we can have off ('ABA days'), though commonly do not get more than three weeks, due to scheduling issues. I was only able to take off two weeks this year, plus one week of "backup at home pager call" around New Years (never called in, nor do I think anyone ever has). I'm requesting my full four weeks next year.

wow 4 weeks, 5 meeting/educational days and 10 holidays i year?!?!?! damn, im jealous, where is that?

we get three weeks off :-( anymore and you gotta make em up at the end of residency.
