I am currently pre-med. However, I am curious: what would happen if you graduate from medical school with an M.D., and fail to match in a residency? What now? What can you do with just an M.D. degree with no residency training?

2 things come to mind

1) Work at Wal-Mart
2) Pad your resume, try and match again

 

[Hakuna Matata]

1. You try to scramble into a residency in the days/weeks/months following the match.
2. You do a research year or something similar and apply to the match the following year.
