If you aren't an assclown, and aren't going for Rad/Onc or something ridiculous, yes.
Otherwise, no.
Otherwise, no.

Yes, and my school is about the only place that would consider me for rad onc.
Actually ass clown is an elected position where I am. I've been nominated, but I haven't written my campaign speech yet. I was inspired by last night's South Park, however, and I think that I will inject myself with apple juice before I start speaking.

Is it generally easier to get a residency at the school you attended?
Some schools are notorious for taking their own, others seem not to give nearly as much benefit. I defer to the others more knowledgeable on the assclown specifics.
You're always going to have an advantage if you're able to get to know the attendings you want to work with in the future and prove to them over an extended period of time that you're worthwhile.

Then again there are always folks in every med school who would have a better shot if they weren't so well known by the attendings.😀
Programs may or may not be partial to their own students. However, a program that takes too many of its own students runs the risk of developing a reputation for that, which would limit the number of applicants from other places. My own school's residency programs overtly limit the number of home students they take for exactly this reason.
The more important point here, at least in my mind, is that it is easier to get into a program where the faculty knows you (assuming "knowing you" is a good thing, of course). Obviously this is easier at your home school, since you are more likely to interact with your own faculty.
Anecdotally, I think most senior students and residents will tell you that it is easier to match at a program where you did a rotation, and that a strong externship performance can, to a degree, make up for lower board scores and grades.

Whats an ass clown?
Dr Mc Ninja is serious.. An ass clown is the student or group of students who have been pegged as idiots or asses.. For example maybe the guy who only laughs at his own jokes, maybe an annoying, poor or untimely communicator,
maybe the guy comes to lecture late and doesnt have the decency to turn his laptop down, maybe he or she lead a very sheltered middle or upper class life and has shortcomings when dealing with the real world. And to make matters worse he feels he is a good fit and he's a legend in his own mind. Maybe he or she came from a broken family that had little direction, guidance or polish, the guy who has the attitude that its his perogative to wear a Mohawk haircut in the mid and upper level medical arena, lastly the person is just "socially incorrect". Hope this answers your question.

I disagree. Even for more competitive fields like radonc you probably have the best shot at your own school. And yes I want to do radonc at my home institution (seriously)!!!
