For all you current residents, how much do you get for educational and/or book allowance?

We get something like $3000 over the four years.

The residents at my institution are negotiating with our new chairperson for educational funds for residents and she would like to get a list of what residents from other institutions receive.

For those of you who reply, could you please put what the money is allowed for (meetings, books, etc) and what institution you are from. If you are not comfortable publicly posting where you're from, could you please private msg me? Thanks.

Wisconsin:

Books- $2000/4yrs (advanced), $2400/5 yrs (categorical)
Meetings- $1500/yr for meetings where a poster/oral has been accepted, with PGY-5 ASTRO covered regardless of presentation.

Excellent! I remember her (though didn't really get to work closely with her) during my extern rotation there. Very nice lady.

UAB. $2500 over 4 years.
Our funds can be increased by teaching radiotherapy students in the clinical radiation oncology class. We get $75/hr for that. Usually teach 4 classes/yr @ 1-1.5 hrs per class, so we have the potential to earn around $375 extra per year

Residents can use their educational funds for buying books, journals, educational materials, licensing / board exam fees, attending meetings, other fun stuff, etc.

Does anyone's program send their residents to any board review courses? If so, which programs do it and which review courses do they send residents to?

JHH: zero. but they wil buy you your main texts and occasional library books. you get a laptop for your four years but you gotta give it back .
