Hey All,

I am planning to apply for a dermatology residency program a few years from now, and am looking for a centralized database that lists the schools that offer derm residency. I have looked at the match, but it is my understanding that lists the residency programs with openings for this round of applications, is that correct?

Since I will be applying sometime down the line, I want to find a list of all the schools that offer derm residencies - not just the ones with openings this year. I wanted to save some time if I don't have to go through the websites of each veterinary school in the US to figure out this information.

And I am mainly looking at academic residencies.

Thanks much for any help you can provide!!

A quick search for the ACVD website led me to a list on there. Click the "residency" link, then "training programs."

How did I miss this?! Ive been on that website countless times. Thank you very much.

If it's anything like lab animal (who lists "training programs" on the ASLAP and ACLAM website), it will depend on the year. Sometimes a program listed on the website may not offer a residency that year, or a program not listed will offer one. I understand the desire to plan ahead but I'd be careful about banking on a specific program being available.

Yeah Penn takes derm residents every 2 out of 3 years I think. Probably best bet is to get in touch with the programs you're interested in and see if they know ahead of time what years they will be starting new residents.

Penn usually takes residents in that pattern, but this year seems different; there may be an opening next year. If you're interested in a particular program, you should try to do an externship there, especially while you're still a student. It will be much more difficult to do so when you're an intern or a working vet. It'll also be helpful to attend the dermatology conferences (national and world) so that you can start to meet people within the college (small group, word travels).
