Hello all,

First time I've posted in a few years, these are all great questions and answers, thank you!

I've looked back at some very old posts that rank residency programs, so does anyone have any updated info on PM&R residency program rankings? I know some of the top programs around the country, but I'm looking at New England/Mid Atlantic/East coast programs. If anyone has suggestions please let me know!

Thank you to all for invaluable advice 🙂

Hey swimJ,

I'm just a 4th year student, but in terms of reputation for programs in the regions you specified the following programs (in no particular order) are usually mentioned as some of the best:

Spaulding (Harvard)
Kessler (UMDNJ)
Temple
Jefferson
Pitt
NY Presbyterian (Cornell/Columbia)
NYU Rusk

I'm sure there are some other really solid programs in the New England, Mid-Atlantic, and East Coast regions; however, the above are some that consistently come up on SDN and in conversations I've had with other physiatrists and residents. Hope that helps a little bit!

VCU has a better program then at least half those programs mentioned above, if not more. Great chairman in Dr. Cifu, and phenomenal program director in Dr. McKinley.

As a resident, you will get a very well-rounded education in all aspects of PM&R and be ready to enter practice directly or fellowship if you choose. VCU offers every fellowship you can think of, including Pain (ACGME-accredited), Interventional Spine, SCI, TBI, Polytrauma and there is even a Prolotherapy fellow this year.

PM me of you have more questions about VCU-- you can't go wrong there if you are interested in the Mid-Atlantic region.

Strongly agree with VCU being added to that list!

List is a reasonable starting point

Lots of other great programs to add, but the obvious omission is U of Washington- Seattle. On everyone's very short list

Most people would include some combination of Mayo, Michigan, Ohio State, Baylor on there as well

agree with those as well but the OP was asking for East Coast programs
