currently i am a California resident and going to ucla, but my dad had just moved to Texas(his work moved there). By the time i apply, he would be a resident in texas and claim me as a dependent. Would i be considered a instate or oos when applying to texas school?

According to " Q. My parents are claiming me as a dependent for tax purposes. How do I establish residency or how do they establish residency?
A.
If your parents are Texas residents and reside in the state of Texas and are claiming you as a dependent on their income tax return or are eligible to claim you as a dependent, then your residency will be Texas once your parents have met the residency requirements" http://www.utexas.edu/student/admissions/residency/resfaq.html
i should be able to apply as a instate, but i dont know if that is only for 18& under or everyone.

How come you don't just be an independent? Are you parents paying for dental school? It would make sense to just be an independent unless your parents are paying for your school.

I believe as far as applying to Texas schools, you are classified by where you are a resident of during the application process. Call them though.
