What rotations do you wish you had done for FM now that you are in practice?

Pediatric Cardiology: I wish I thought of doing this elective. My outpt experience in residency was not to heavy on pediatrics as our clinic just didn't get many. Now, I am spending >25% of my patients as pediatric well and sick visits. I am encountering situations in which I know how I would handle an adult, but I am confused at the pediatric management.

NICU/"rapid response" nursery/delivery team: We had to do nursery, but it was at a low level nursery which I did not experience even one neonatal intubation. We also spend some time in a high level NICU - but we were not allowed to do anything or be involved in patient care. We basically went to morning rounds, then educational rounds then went home. I wish I had experience with neonatal intubation and umbilical lines - although our NICU makes this impossible (they really, really, dislike family medicine being involved and even consider our shadowing "over reaching"). We also had a peds ER rotation - but there were always EM-PEDS fellows and pediatric residents - the FM were last on the food chain and usually not even allowed in the room during codes/resp arrests.

Psychiatry: Most SSRI/anti-depressants are in fact prescribed by PMDs. I just wish I had more experience with the intrancies of medical management of depression/bipolar/schizos.

I wish I had done a trauma ER rotation, maybe 2 if anything just for stabilization of different major injuries.
Ophthamology (can't believe I'm saying this cuz I hate the eye) but I think I hate it cuz it scares me more than anything since I have little experience with eye trauma.
Endocrine: I am great with diabetes but much of the rest is an enigma. I have to read, read, read, to make sure I order the correct labs to cover the bases.

Our NICU rotation was similar. Just rounding, listening to heart murmurs, and reading xrays. Never felt so dumb in my life. We didn't do anything either. However, I don't ever take care of neonates so it really hasn't affected me.

What I am glad that I did take: Podiatry, radiology, interventional radiology, GI, ortho clinic, anesthesia, peds clinic, general surgery bariatric patient management and adjusting lap bands.
