•Anyone know where I can find which residency types are the hardest/easiest to get into?•••••From word of mouth I think Ortho and Derm are pretty competitive. Check out the Allo forums, they have similar topics.
Iserson's Getting into a Residency is a really good book for approaching medical school, describing specialties, etc..I think he discusses the specialties that are more difficult to enter. Derm, Ortho, Oto, EM, are some that come to mind, but I'm sure there are others.
Check out this Wash U web site. For each specialty they provide match rates (by year) and a qualitative rating on competitiveness (e.g. less, more, most). You must use the "view a specialty" menu in the upper right corner.
Derm is pretty competitive. There are many students who want to practice but aren't interested in crazy hours......derm is usually a chance to have an eight our day and have fun or be with the family.
