I am in a unique situation, I am an intern in a surgical program, I switched my programs to from IL to a small place in AZ (because of family issue). Everything went smoothly, my new PD has accepted me and the old PD( of the current program) was also supportive.

However as things are getting closer, I have realized that I cannot do this and wanna stay in my old program (my family is thinking of moving elsewhere). However I am not sure if I walked up to my PD and ask if he can take me back, he would and what are the legal implications of doing any of this ( yes I have signed a 2 year contract at the new place)

Someone please help urgently!!

Thanks!!

JL

I don't know that you can do anything. You made a commitment to this new program and signed a legal document. There is not a whole lot of recourse. Not to mention that if you do try to back out, you may lose the goodwill that both these PD's have been kind enough to show you in accommodating your original request. Do you have any good reason that you want to stay at your current program rather than go to AZ other than the unfortunate event of your family moving (did they not tell you that before you switched programs?)? It's 2 years, work hard, learn lots and tough it out and stick by your decision.

Yeah it seems like you're screwed. If you try to switch again I think you would be risking both PDs no longer being in your corner. The last thing you want to do is end up without a program at all trying to match into a 3rd program. Tread carefully.
