Hello. I was wondering if anyone did a residency in Peds/Vision Therapy in PCO before? I am interested in Vision Therapy, but then it seemed like that mostly, you are supervising students ... and I'm not sure would that be a good learning experience. I know SUNY has a good program, but I do not really want to live in NY. Also, I am also interested in Ocular Disease as well. I cannot seem to decide btwn Vision Therapy or Ocular Disease. I am leaning more toward VT b/c it seemed like you need to do a residency in it to be able to implement it in your practice in the future.
Thank you!

Do you mean it's a lot of supervising at PCO, or just Peds/BV residencies in general? From what I gather, our resident has her own patients, but she also does a fair amount supervising I think and a bit of teaching. I'm not sure of the exact ratios, but I could look into it if you like. Plus Dr. Franzel is teh awesome. 😛 I know a couple of the previous residents must have liked it well enough because they stuck around to stay on faculty. Sorry, I know you were asking about PCO, but these are my observations. ^^

Is the doctor you mentioned in PCO or another school? I am interested in residency in Peds/VT in PCO, but then I think I heard that most of the time is spent precepting students instead of working up your own pxs. I'm not sure would you learn as much this way. Do you know about this in PCO? Thank you!

Those are very good questions, but unfortunately I know almost nothing about PCO. Everything I mentioned was about my school (UMSL), which may be completely irrelevant to you. Sorry I didn't make it very clear what school I was talking about. I just didn't know how wide your search would be to find the best fit for you (or how much location would play into your decision-making), so I just threw that out there. Good luck!
