If I go to my state medical school (Kentucky) I figured out that I will have almost have no debt after graduation. I have enough credentials to go a top 20 school but did not want go there due to financial reasons. I mean is it common for people to go top residencies from schools like Kentucky which is not even on the rankings?

Is a great USMLE score can help me to go like Harvard for Rads residency.
I think people might look down on me if I apply from my state school to Harvard.

Aydinhatemi,

I think you'll be fine if you do well on the USMLE STEP I, be in the top 1/4 of your class, get AOA, and obtain strong letters of recommendation. Do some research in rads too, and you're golden.

Good luck!

Or just go to hopkins, pass your classes, bomb the boards, take on some debt, and then pretty much take your pick of any residency anywhere.

(you might mention at your residency interviews how stiff the competition at jhu is, and how they don't teach in a way that caters to the boards, but even if you forget to do that you're pretty much set.)

A little resentment here?

😀 not much resentment, just reinforcing what you were saying -- if you go to the state school, you better be prepared to kick some serious ass. OTOH, if you choose a top 1 school, you can pretty much set it on coast for the rest of your life and focus on the finer things in school, e.g., wine, women and Fells Point.
