hey guys....in deciding which programs to apply to, i want to go to a place where all the residents are really tight with each other and everyone has a great time together. i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on which programs are like that?

I think you can find this at a number of programs, if your values match those of the other residents. You will need to rely on your interview trip to assess this. Avoid a program where the residents seem "weird". (It probably means that your values/goals do not match those of the current residents. There will always be residents at the extremes. You need to try to get an overall gestalt of the collective residents' morale.)

Avoid a program where all of the residents you meet seem "different" than you (even if it has an outstanding reputation).

Definitely look into the Mayo Clinic program in Rochester Minnesota. There are about 18 residents, lots of permanent friendships formed in each class.

Plus, Mayo Clinic itself has an pervasive aura of "Minnesota Nice" to nurses, staff, residents, Med students and definitely to the patients.
