Resident leaving Penn??

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
u know it seems there is always one person who does the whole career change thing...

I always feel really bad cuz u know they didn't go through all that hard work just to change their minds.

wouldn't it be horrible if it happened to us?

I heard at Emory 1 PGY2 left to go to another program and 2 interns are or have left for a "career change" as well....

if a good place has an opening and one wants to change from current to the better program, how supportive is the current program generallly? cos they will be one residnet short if they agree for the change....???

is there a way to do this without offending the pd?

NO. First think why do you want to change? If soley for the program name and you are not planning academic medicine or a fellowship I would discourage you unless you truely are unhappy regarding your stats or amount of experience. I would investigate the opening by talking to fellow residents at that program and seeing if you think you would be a good fit. I would interview if interested after your research. If accepted for an interview I would tell my PD that I am interviewing here because I like the programs x,y,z and my concerns here at this program not meeting a,b,c. Then even if you do not get the spot your PD may be able to work with you to help you feel better about your current spot.

Hi everyone, just to clarify, I am a Hopkins resident... One of our interns is indeed leaving, for a completely different career (these things happen); he is not going to another OB program. He is doing very well and continues to be excited about our program as well as working hard...

I just looked on the CREOG clearinghouse (http://www.acog.org/departments/dept_notice.cfm?recno=1&bulletin=122)

Hi,

Thank You for the website. I noticed that a resident also left PGY-2 year at Johns Hopkins for a "career change" anyone reading this forum at hopkins and know anything about that? I can't remember if I asked about that during my interview or not.
