How many people here are edicited to the show "resident life". I know I am. I go through the day thinking "am i awake". It is such a sweet show. Is there anyone that is just like me?

I watch it every Monday!!!! I spoke to some students from Vanderbilt and they are amazed that so many of their educational training spots are on the show.

actually I watch all 3 shows resident life, maternity ward and trauma, life in the ER. I am hooked and dont miss a beat. I think that the shows give a little insight as to what you'll be getting into. sometimes I even question my own motives and whether or not I can handle the minimal sleep hours! I love to be in bed sleeping so I really have to change some habits!! anyway, the shows are awesome, along with the famous E.R., YEA CARTER!!!

What channel is Resident Life and when does it start on Mondays? Is this a TLC show or Discovery Channel or what? Thanks -

I watch the trio as well. I think I am going to put it on my app under medical experience.

sucks i have no money for cable

I love the shows. I watch all three every monday as well. I just want to get an idea as to what residency will be like and how the people get through it. Watching different specialties also helps me get an idea of what I want to do.

pls tell my family and friends that I'm not wierd for watching these shows 😛

    Iotanna don't worry about your family. they probably don't understand yet!! It's all good though.

I had a roommate who would run out of the room screaming when I was watching Trauma: Life in the ER!!!
p.s. he was a gay man:laugh:

heh, my mom hates when i watch trauma. i am not allowed to watch it in the living room. i can't watch it in my room either cause my sister is in there on the comp., and she gets grossed out by it. if i want to watch it at home, i have to watch it in my parents room with a sign on the door.

i'm not such a big fan of maternity ward. i dunno, i just see it as repetitious, i mean, there's only so many ways to give birth to a baby. it's great and all, the miracle of life, but i couldn't imagine doing it for a living.

just watch me now become an ob/gyn. i'd be the first one laughing.

I think maternity ward is awesome b/c it shows you how to be patient with the ppl giving birth and how to use different techniques on different ppl. and for what its worth, I love the anticipation from waiting for the actual birth its pretty cool!!

was that show on last night? I've only seen the residents only once before but it was pretty good... but not as good as resident life

I swear, I could have written your post! Except I don't watch ER, too much drama for me, but I love Scrubs!!

It bugs my roommates when I watch these while we're eating. I guess it just doesn't bother me. Its much better than watching the new Joe Millionaire, or something equally inane. Thank goodness those shows come on on Monday. It totally energizes me for the week.

BTW -- I love WiFi, I'm writing this during Vertebrate Physiology

But, you should feel a little better because maternity life is a horrible horrible show. How many times does a person need to see a 13 year old give birth? uck.

Exactly, or watch the parents being told their new baby has Down Syndrome or cystic fibrosis. It's depressing.

I agree, there was a 14-year-old last night on "Resident Life" giving birth. I enjoy only "Trauma: Life in the ER" and "Resident Life," I usually skip "Maternity Ward."

Monday Night Football is 10x better if you are looking for something to watch. Plus, John Madden says some really crazy things once the 4th quarter starts.

The commercials tick me off. Not quite as bad as Joe Millionare, but still. Overall, resident life is my favorite medical show though!

I hope all you ppl that feel horrible about maternity ward think twice before entering residency in ob/gyn. if you can't feel empathetic towards the ppl on the show, then how are you going to be able to discuss diagnosis with patients that may give birth to a baby with down syndrome or show care unconditionally to a 14 year old pregnant girl? you really gotta ask yourself that question pleeeease!!!!😕 😕
P.S. i like scrubs too!

that's why i'm not going to go into an OB/GYN residency. It's ER for me (at least this month, i might change my mind again)

A great show. It seems to be a pretty good glimpse into what to expect as a resident. You get to see the ups and the downs. It draws me in even more.

I watched Resident Life for the first time last night. I agree that it was insightful, but I still find Trauma: Life in the ER more fascinating. Trauma is, at least clinically, much more medically revealing, but that may just be because I think I've got a strange predisposition for EM and gen surg. 😍

Regardless, Resident Life struck me as a good show. I was a bit surprised by the (sometimes) jarring southern accents that a lot of the docs had. Interesting culture shock.

Does anyone else remember the show "Code Blue"? I think Trauma: Life in the ER replaced it a year or two ago, but I really enjoyed it. It showed more trauma surgery and the lives of general surgery residents than Trauma does. Trauma tends to be a lot more ER-based. Maybe they could bring it back and make it four in a row.....

By the way-----I just saw Tiger Woods' fiance on TV......wow

I don't have a TV. Does anyone know if I could get these episodes of a P2P app, ie Kazaa?

Just a general comment. I have seen Trauma a couple of times and Resident's life once.

I found them both to be only somewhat accurate.

ER is not primarily about trauma. You see vastly more medical problems and a large amount of 'clinic' type stuff. Trauma is just more dramatic. There is nothing innately dramatic about waiting for labs to come back on your patient.

And the amount of sleep residents get is highly dependent on the residency you pick. For the most part, I get plenty of sleep, and I am a 9-10 hour a night sleeper. 🙂

And sistahnik, do not pass judgement until you have walked a mile. You will one day find yourself tired of whatever becomes your usual frustrating patient. No matter what field you go into. This has nothing to do with being able to be compassionate. I know several outstanding Ob/gyn residents who get annoyed and frustrated with a 17 G4P1 (four pregnancies one birth...) who complains of pain and being tired and not really wanting to have a baby. As physicians, we all will have days or patients where we are frustrated. If you deny this in yourself, you are likely not to recognize it and take it out on your patients or others around you.

"Resident Life" is definitely THE show. You don't need to turn back and forth between a comedy and a drama because you have Dr. Shipman and.....Dr. Shipman. That guy is hilarious. I wish I was half that funny with all the sleep I get. As we were. As.....we.....were.............

I was born at a very young age

trauma was on before code blue was ever on. i think that in the summer, they play code blue, and in the winter they play trauma. i''m not sure if that's true though, but that's what i thought.

wow, excellent...I'm not the only one who makes their parents/siblings/roommates watch organ transplants over dinner.

Ever since I had open-heart surgery in 1995 I've been addicted to TLC/Discovery Health Channel...Way back then the current show "Trauma: Life in the ER" was called "Trauma: Live and DEATH in the ER"... Weird huh? It's like people couldn't handle the death part...hmmmm...

Anyway, Resident Life is currently tops in my book...Shipman and JimBob are hilarious and Dr. Levy is awesome (I aspire to be like her). Anyway...all of this has been said before!

At least next monday, when we are all huddled around our TVs watching RL, we will think fondly of each other as our families/roommates run screaming into the streets. Hehe.

Maybe someday we'll be famous residents on TV too.

hey roja!! I have walked a mile and then some, and I'm still walking. I have been in the field for almost 6 years, clinic and hospital. my experience goes from IM to oncology and in between, and yes they all carry their share of frustration whether from the job itself or the patients. trust me I understand frustration but I also understand how to channel it. When I watch the shows I also don't want to see a bunch of teens delivering babies, but I'm prepared to grasp a hold to whatever experiences I can learn from. I know that I'm not involved in the cases so I don't take it personal except when the babies are born, I shed a tear or two. Yes, there is gonna be young girls having baby after baby, but I refuse to let that jade my attitude toward the situation, copassion goes a loooong way. on the other hand, I have had opportunities to discuss some issues with my pregnant peds patients, but with lots of love. so take it easy, don't be so frustrated. I really didn't mean to say all of this, but I wanted you to understand where I was coming from. 😉 😉 P.S. like I said, maternity ward allows you to see how they deal with each patient on individual basis although some may have similar characteristics.

I love those medical shows.Especially ER,The Residents, Trauma Life In The ER,and Scrubs:clap: . I watch Maternity Ward sometimes.

Am I the only one who is not so much of a fan of these type of shows? I mean, I love Scrubs. But Resident Life, Trauma Life In The ER etc., I really don't find interesting. But I have a huge aversion to "reality tv" in general.

But I agree with you Flash, some of those docs had some serious southern accents! And this is coming from someone who grew up in southern Louisiana!!
