Resident switching specialities

If someone decided late fourth year that they would want to switch specialties, and did an osteopathic intern year - are there away rotations that accept interns/residents for EM? If so, can someone shed light on this?

I met two people on the interview trail this past year who was doing this. They were PGY-1 and had done an EM rotation at their home institution. If I remember correctly, one individual had managed a late 4th year away rotation. I'm not sure about the other.

I didn't match the first year. Did a surgical intern year and reapplied. I know a few people who did the same thing and met a few people who interviewed this year who did the same thing. I also met a few people on the interview trail who decided to change specialties into EM. You're fighting a massive up hill battle. You will need EM letters and SLOEs which ideally are obtained during MS4 even if it is later in the year. Getting letters during intern year is another challenge in of itself and most people do that by getting a home EM rotation.
