Residents wearing university apparel?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
WHAT?? I am planning on smothering myself with them clothes AND smother my SO with them as well (she did that to me with her gross Texas A&M gears).

Who cares? If some students say something, then I'll be like "You pay your own money to be here, but you know what?????? I get PAID to be here!!!"

So, like the same thing except with university sweat shirts?

Super random, but is this weird? My s/o wants to order a bunch of gear to celebrate wherever I match, but for some reason I'm hesitant. Anything odd about residents wearing apparel from the university affiliated with their training program?

Its fine ... It's very Dr 90210 though -- Dr Rey was always featured on the show with his Harvard coffee mug and sweats, and he only did his fellowship there. That being said if you want to show some institutional pride and pat yourself on the back, maybe take credit for a more prestigious pedigree than you had previously, where's the harm?

Things I have seen in the resident's lounge: apparel from current institution, their medical school, and undergrad...on the same person, at the same time. (three different schools....) People being teased about whatever school they are wearing that day. People not caring or noticing who has what on.

So do what suits you!

Why would it be odd?

I probably wouldn't wear it to intern orientation, but other than that go for it. You're going to be spending 3-5 years there, and you're working for the institution.
Well, depending on the situation, it could be a bit of misinformation. Sure, I can claim that I graduated from Tufts School of Medicine... but that's because I completed the SMP program there and the SMP program is a program within the School of Medicine. Everyone is just going to assume that it was the MD program. [technically correct is the best kind of correct.jpg]

Dude wear what you want. I did residency at a conference rival from my undergrad, and you damn sure I wore my undergrad colors around the hospital on Fridays/ Saturday game day.
For fellowship--well I did sports medicine so I wore the Div I university swag literally every day 😎.

At the Harvard training hospitals, I have rarely seen people who didn't attend Harvard for undergrad or med school wearing Harvard gear. Kind of an interesting exception to what a lot of people here are saying. When I first started training, I expected a lot of people would jump on the Harvard bandwagon for some reflected glory. Then again, Harvard sports are fairly bad in the grand scheme, so it's not like you're doing residency at Ohio State where you can feel included in a new fan atmosphere.

The only gear from my current institution is the T-shirt I scrambled to buy one day during intern year when I spilled chili all over my dress shirt and needed something to wear for the rest of the workday.

/I'd probably have more stuff though if we had better sports teams.
