resigning from pharm and re-applying

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Just curious...

What could be so bad to make you want to stop after one week? I'd kill to be in pharmacy school now.

Does one know about resigning from the first semester of pharmacy school and then reapplying to another one? I know prospetive schools will frown upon this, but is it possible? I'm not looking on advice about staying in or out of my current school, but if it is possible to reapply to a new school after having left a program after a week?

It probably is possible, but like you said they will most likely frown upon that. Every adcom I ever spoken to, always implied that they don't want people dropping out and taking another person's spot and that is partially why the admission process is so intense.

I am sure if you have absolutely extraordinary circumstances, this could be overcome. But your best bet is to ask and contact the admissions people. Seeing how this is a pre-pharm, you are probably going to just get biased opinions from people who don't have the knowledge of this subject.

I know its frowned upon at LIU. It happened a few times a year or two ago when people left after a semester in the program. It wasn't that they had bad grades (you just get placed on probation for bad grades), they left because they lost interest in Pharmacy.

Well I know someone who dropped out after a semester saying she could not be able to cope with all the loans. So she drops out, gets a job as a lab tech (since she has a degree in chemistry), works for a year, then changes her mind and applies again to pharmacy school. And guess what, -she still gets accepted

Do you think residencies or pharmacist interviewers would care? Which jobs look for transcripts?

any pharmacists out there?
Finish what you are in and look into transfer to another pharm school so that way you save aton of money and some credits (possibly all) will get transferred but note this method can prolong the time you will graduate plus you need a good reason to transfer but i'm sure you can find one . Personally i would stick it out and continue with the four years at the same college unless u can transfer straight into 2nd year.

Like people have already said, it is possible, but you may have a hard time in the process.

would it affect employment after school? I know that some pharm jobs want "all college transcripts"

I would definitely try to transfer instead of dropping out and reapplying. What is the reason you want to drop so soon, if you don't mind me asking?

i would love to be in ur shoes (in pharm school) but not at a point where i would look to drop out..you should reconsider ur choice

Think about it from the schools perspective. Where I went to school a spot in pharmacy school is worth basically 80K at least over 4 years. Say you drop out of school after 1 semester they will be losing ~ 70K. If you have done that to one school whos to say you wont do it to another. I don't think its absolute but it does make you high risk.
