hello all,
I was looking at the EK book regarding resonance structures, and it gives 2 conditions that have to be present in order for resonance to occur 1. An atom in the molecule must have a p-orbital or a lone pair of electrons 2. That atom must be attached to an atom that has a double or triple bond h/e it goes on to say that the adjacent p-orbital can have 0,1,2 electrons which can form another pi-bond, and the p-orbital allows for the adjacent pi-bond to extend and encompass more than 2 nuclei
-Im not sure what they are talking about in the second half, of anybody could explain that would be appreciated!
Thanks
