One of my interviewers, asked, "How do you think the rising costs of healthcare is going to affect its delivery?" It rattled me for a second because I knew little about the current issues of healthcare, and the overall status of our system. I gave an anecdotal answer centered around my family's experience with the system, but I felt I should have talked more about the nitty-gritty details.

What are the best resources for an individual to learn the ins-and-outs of our system, and better understand the current issues of our healthcare?

Great book on rising healthcare cost - The Price We Pay - Dr. Marty Makary. Both informative and infuriating.

Oh this books sounds familar! I think the author was on the PreMed Years Podcast with Dr. Gray recently

Here's a response I put on a similar thread about a month ago:

Good books to read about current situation and challenges of the US medical system

The book I recommended is called Remedy and Reaction, by Paul Starr. It should not be the only thing you read, but I found that it provides a very clear historical context that many other resources have not. You can see my other thoughts and other suggestions in the thread I linked. Happy reading!

Highly recommend Paul Starr’s ‘The Social Transformation of American Medicine’. It’s a long, somewhat dense read, but it really thoroughly traces out how medicine became such an odd, high status profession, and how the growth of the status of the physician mirrored the changes in healthcare costs.

I think an anecdote is a smart approach for this question, as long as it addresses the prompts. I for sure would've used that approach.
