That's one of the functions of macrophage activation via IFN-gamma, to upregulate iNOS.

A macrophage IS just the tissue form of a monocyte.

Dang, I know that's straight out of the literature but DO remember hearing somewhere that macrophages do NOT have a respiratory burst while their monocytes conterparts and neutrophils of course do. It might have been from Goljan's audio or something, IDK.

If my memory serves me right, I thought Goljan actually says that they do not a myeloperoxidase activity, but that they do have a respiratory burst. - lol... but I could be wrong.

Pretty sure UW says macrophages utilize predominantly non-oxidative killing

I think that it is myeloperoxidase that macrophages lack.
