I think some med/parmacy/physio/nursing students might be interested in this. It is the medical company of the Irish Reserve Defence Forces (formerly FC&#193😉 and it is without a doubt something worthwile to do if you have any spare time. You'll meet loads of different people and you will have more oppurtunities than everyone else there if you are studying to become a healthcare professional.

Who we are
62nd Med Coy LSB Reserve Defence Forces. Basically we are the medics for the rest of the reserves. We learn all about first aid, how to get troops out of tight spots (like off the side of a mountain), learn how to handle and shoot guns, learn about communications and camoflague and other military stuff.

Since we're the medics we get to do a lot cooler stuff than anyone else like:

-Fly around the place in a helicopter-we are the only company which gets such regular use of the helicopter and as a result we are close to the Air Corps. Most reservist will never even get a glimpse of the thing.

-Ride around in ambulances, when you get trained you will have an oppurtunity to see what it's like in the back of an ambulance.

-Get to go on more camps thananyone else. You can get about €477 (tax free) for a week long camp during the summer. We are the only company that can do up to 5 camps in any one summer, it's up to you if you want to do it or not, that's not a bad way to make a bit of money while plaing with guns.

-You also get the uniform and all of that stuff and first-aid certs to prove that you've done the courses.

Finally after initial training you can do the following (the state pays for it) :
Paracheuting
Absailing
Learn how to drive an army truck
Become an expert in army radios
Learn how to cook if you want
A load of other stuff that they'll train you in if you want.

So why not try it out? You can leave when you want, just give back the kit and sign the forms. We parade every Tuesday at 20000 at St. Bricin's Military Hospital near the Phoenix Park. You can get the No. 10 there (outbound to Phoenix Park) from O' Connell's Street or if you know where it is the Luas to Heuston Station (marked Tallaght) from Abbey Street is just as handy. Go on give it a try, for the free clothes if anything else...

I am applying for 2007 and am inthe Medical Reserves here in Canada. I was wondering if there was any direct transfers from other countries. I am a Master Corporal trained in Field medicine and used to be in the Infantry before my Fire and EMT courses.

Just curious.

Please do not post company advertisements on these forums. I'll allow this one but next time, ask users to PM you about such opportunities.

Alright, sorry I thought this wasn't really an advert as it is pure voluntary and a direct interest to people studying med related subjects (I'm a pharmacy student myself). I'll seek permission next time, thanks for lettin this one through.

As far as I know there is no direct transfers but you'll be promoted a lot quicker with your previous training. Especially if you're a med student.

If anyone wants to ask me any other questions about the Reserves please PM me, thanks.
