Hi everyone, I have a quick question. I am working on my prereqs while working full time. Well I was until I was laid off yesterday 🙁 I am now applying for several jobs at the university hospital. Two are research study coordinator positions, and I am wondering if i should include my current academic pursuits on my resume? I completed my bachelor's a few years ago so that is on there. I was thinking of adding another line under the education section saying i am a part time student working on medical school prerequisites. Do you think think this would be something important to put on my resume? It does display my interest in the medical field, but the fact that I am going to school part-time may be off putting to some employers.

I am just undecided on whether to include this or not. It is an important part of my life and who I am, but is it appropriate to put it on my resume? Thanks for any and all advice!

I don't think it's a problem. Most research coordinators that I've met are either applying to medical school or still in school and doing their MPH. For every employer that are put-off, there are going to ones who are supportive of your decision and will help you out with LOR, physician shadowing, and interview schedule. I think it's much better to be upfront about your plans rather than prevaricate about your future goals, that way, you and your employer can both benefit from the mutual understanding.

Thank you so much Chairman Mao that is great advice! If the fact that I am a student is right on my resume, I will be more likely to find a job with an employer that is more accommodating about school. I didn't think about it like that before. Thanks again!

I wrote something similar on my resume too. It shows my interest in the new field and why I'm applying for a job totally different than what I've held in the past.
