Retail floaters?

Hey everyone, just a question about retail pharmacy. If you are a floater, do you get paid the same amount as a staff pharmacist (assuming you are working full time?) Also will the company pay for gas or mileage? I heard some of the stores you are assigned to might be a little far from where you live?

At my chain you get paid the same per hour as staff pharmacists, and they will pay you for time spent driving more than an hour from your home store. But not less. They use Mapquest to calculate the time.

Same here, except they pay mileage minus 30 miles and time minus 30 minutes. I was paid 1 hour each way as OT for driving 1.5 hour each way and working an 8 hour shift. Hours were added to my regular pay check, mileage was reimbursed separately and required maps and signature of the store I was floating at.

You must have been working in Alaska if you had to travel that far. Except there you would have been paid $1,000 mileage, minimum.

I still haven't figured out how they thought it was cheaper to pay ne $230/day to drive back and forth 6 days/week x 6 weeks than to put me up in a hotel for<$150/night+25 meal allowance. I was closest to the store with a CA license.

it depends, some companies pay their floaters more. especially if it's an emergency, to cover vacation, etc. it's like double the pay from what i hear. 🙂

As for floating in Alaska, I'd think they would fly you from city to city.

Yeah, and what about them Ice Road Truckah's? Huh? Think about them, they don't get to fly anywhere. So I guess you're implying that pharmacists up there are a bunch of nancies, eh?

On second thought, they may use Toboggan's for the purposes of retail floating up there however...

Longitude also. 😉 I don't know what the non-floats make, so I don't know if I make more, less or equal.

I believe our floaters make a tiny bit more than staff pharmacists, but it evens out because they don't get the same bonus. Staff pharmacists get an end-of-year bonus for going so many scripts over budget, tech hours under budget, and/or having really good customer review scores. I know if your scores are bad, you can lose your bonus (definitely happened to the 3 at my old store two years ago). I don't know what kind of bonus, if any, floaters get.
