Just wanted to find out which of the retail chains have internet access in their stores. I know that CVS doesn't have internet access. It actually bothers me that we aren't allowed to use our cell phones in the pharmacy. We got an e-mail from the pharmacy supervisor and corporate that apparently its unprofessional to use your cell phone, go on the internet, check Facebook statuses, Twitter updates, text messaging, WTF!

So basically they're saying, while I'm working, I shouldn't have contact with the outside world...🙄

why I hate retail....🙄

Rite Aid does not either....🙁

Medicine Shoppe does have internet access, but they are not a major chain-hey, your first irrelevent reply!

They call it work for a reason!! What is this world coming to when people cant even do their jobs without checking their online social standing?👎eek:

I can't tell if this is a sarcastic post or not but assuming it's serious, why the hell would you think it's ok to go on twitter and facebook while at work?

I agree, it is pretty disappointing that they do not allow internet access. The most up-to-date clinical resources can now be found online. Not only does it seem they must not provide those resources to you, but they prevent access to them if you had subscriptions through any other organization (pharmacy schools, etc).

Do they really think we are health care providers if they do not trust our professional judgement to use new technology to benefit patients?

So when there's no scripts to fill, what do they want me to do, just sit there twiddling my thumbs waiting for a script to come along. I'd rather just check out the news and whatnot.

I feel sorry for the people who work 14 hour shifts. 14 hours and unless you have a radio or TV running in your pharmacy, you have no idea at all what's happening outside the store. Personally, I'm taking the ban on cell phones as an endorsement to use the store phone to make personal calls.

You're there to work, why would they pay you so that you could be on twitter or checking facebook? If you're bored, mop the floors.

Yeah if you have downtime couldnt you just call people asking them about refills or restock some shelves?

I thought the point of work was to contribute something, not sit around being bored.

There is always something to do. Unless your execution is 100% and your SSS is 100%, there is always something to do:

  • Fill the vials.
  • Front Store Re-shops
  • Cycle Counts
  • Face the pharmacy
  • Vacuum the floor
  • Do an out of date return
  • Do an in date return.
  • Wipe the counter with alcohol
  • Wipe the counting trays with alcohol.
  • Make your PCI calls.
  • Face the waiting bin and combine bags where needed.
  • Test the fillmaster.
I'm sure there is something missing.....

😍LUUUVin this one...

This OP is going to a school that can't even get pre-candidate accreditation the first time. No surprise here.

I fired an intern once who refused to vacuum the floor as it was beneath him... I told him not to come back....

I actually like vacuuming, it's quite relaxing lol. The one thing I hate doing is refilling vials/caps and taking out the trash because the front store keeps the back room in such a mess that it takes forever to navigate through the back room to the Cintas storage bins for the blue bags.

And for some reason, the vials/caps are stacked in a really cramped space that makes it difficult to carry multiple boxes of caps/vials back to the pharmacy without knocking a bunch of stuff over.

 I was being sincere!

I have taken MANY orders that would make vacuuming look glamorous! Not above it over here... 😉

It sounds like some of you hard-asses are headed straight for administration. Internet access should be available everywhere. Just block the social networking sites. People need a couple of times a day to see what's going on, to stay in touch with the world.

I wish we would take some tips from Europeans when it comes to working and enjoying life. So many people are brainwashed with the so-called "American dream."

Seriously?

You're there to work. If some major news event were to happen, I'm sure at some point, a customer who comes in would mention something about it. Otherwise, the world will still be there when your shift ends.

I wonder what some of you people would have done 20 years ago, when to get the news you actually had to wait *gasp* until 5 PM every day.

Newspapers are still the best

Man, I remember those things called...I forget..."newspapers?"

i know right! they used to print the news and you had to go outside and put...coins into a machine to get it! Man...who uses coins now.

But really, I didn't have that big of an issue working at CVS and not having internet. You could alt-2 it and launch a browser screen and get google/yahoo front page, but you couldn't click through to read anything. I used to just stick my iphone standing up on the counter and let the AP News app run while I filled if there was REALLY something I was looking out for.

I just checked my stuff while I was on break...I'm an internet ***** and all, but I can go a few hours without internet.

As for vacuuming...I kinda liked it, then again I enjoyed wiping down the surfaces with the alcohol bottle & paper towel. That asshat Old Timer was talking about deserved to get canned.

I was reading a newspaper at my community pharmacy rotation this summer while there was nothing to do. (They told me not to do anything like filling scripts, count, pull bottles unless the pharmacist tells me to do it.)

Then the father of my preceptor (my preceptor is the VP of the pharmacy, father is the Prez) comes over and tells me its unprofessional to read the paper.

He's right about the American thing. Americans have way too much work ethic compared to Europeans, it's because of that damn agricultural market that developed first in the Americas. I mean WTF, the US doesn't have any laws mandating paid vacations for workers. Canada gets 2 weeks, and most Europeans get 5 weeks of vacation.

hey, don't forget, it's that same work ethic that gives us the vast numbers of HTN pt's that will fund your paychecks in the future.

I'm just surprised that the OP's hours haven't been cut to 0 because he has nothing to do. My store (at major chain) isn't even allowed to have more than 1 intern because they need to be paid too much (so the other 2 students besides me working there get paid as techs). And we're all busy. Sundays the pharmacist has to be alone (all in center city Philly) because there aren't enough scripts that warrant a tech for that day and it's more important to have techs other days, making the pharmacist's job that day pretty hard.

And about Europe, sure you could have 4 weeks vacation, but most upper-income people in Europe have a lower quality of life than upper-income people in the states. You're fine being cooped up in a 2BR apt. with your wife and kid or 2 and only having 1 car if any for the family? Fine.

Houses are overrated. If I've got a sweet condo in the middle of london, I think I'd enjoy that. Beats this crap hole of a city that smells like pee that I'm in right now. Kids can run around outside and dodge cars.

Move your ass to Europe where you pay $6.00 for a a gallon of gas, live in an apt, pay 22% VAT on everything you buy.

Hey, I actually like this city (though yes, I've been hit by a car once while on my bike).

i've nearly been hit by a bike several times =( hope you don't run reds

been down on those bike lanes on spruce/pine yet?

i like this city when i don't get a whiff of urine or encounter some ghetto trash that don't know how to walk at a moderate pace on the sidewalk.

See I love the idea of a bike lane because it protects the cyclist, pedestrian, and motorist. But what I hate is when some ******* truck driver double parks in the bike lane, and then the cyclist feels that its okay to come into the road. It's safer for everyone for cyclists to bike on the sidewalk rather than the street when there is no bike lane available.
