Got my MCAT score back today and got a 511 (126/129/126/130)

I'm wondering if I should retake (and still apply this cycle) considering that my two lowest scores are chem and bio, which I believe are the easiest to improve? My GPA is a 3.4 so I really feel like I should try to compensate with a high MCAT score...

Also, if I do decide to retake, would it be best to just submit my application with my 511 on June 1st, and then update my application (around september/october) with my new MCAT score? Because of rolling admissions?

Thanks for your help :joyful:

What state are you from? If you are from CA holding out this cycle and retaking it when you are ready wouldn't be a horrible idea depending on your story/ECs...

I'm from Utah. Also, I'm Asian, if that changes anything.

I was just about to post a thread on this! I've got a 510, 126/129/126/129. My GPA is terribly low and I really wasn't satisified with my score, so is the consensus not to retake then? Besides an SMP, I can't think of any other way to improve my academic metrics besides retaking...

Don't retake it.
Focus your time on an SMP or post bacc. A 510 is high enough for a lot of medical schools, and in Texas it's definitely high enough to get in somewhere.

Do I have to reach through your monitor and smack you upside the head???

do NOT retake. Contrary to pre-med delusions, a high score doesn't balance out a low GPA. A good packet should.

Unfortunately, you can't "make up" for a low gpa by having a high mcat. It does not work this way. Get out of this line of thinking and come up with a plan now. 510+ on an MCAT is excellent already, you have nothing else you can prove by increasing scores in this domain via a retake - except insanity.

If you want MD, you should probably retake.

Retake, Don't listen to these fools. They are just afraid that you will do better than them.
